The Story of Stuff Analysis with Questions

The Story of Stuff is a 10-minute length video that teaches us the danger of polluting and how stuff moves through a system, from extraction to production to distribution to consumption and disposal. The host, Annie Leonard, is trying to reach the younger audience using examples from real life, such as phones or technology to grab the audience attention, putting examples such as how we buy the latest technology even though it functions perfectly.

Bias, prejudice in favor or against one thing, person or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair. Annie Leonhard is in favor of re-using old technology, to my example from earlier, to not buy new technology even though the one you have now worked fine. Many people may disagree with Annie’s message such as non-believers in pollution or the corporation, as many of them can be bigger than the government said, Annie.

Annie makes many convincing arguments as she previously stated at the start of her video that she spends 10 years studying and traveling the world to learn how stuff is made and the cost of it. Overall, my way of thinking about consumption has changed in a way, before I always wanted what’s new even if my things were working just fine, but after seeing the video now I know what happens behind the scenes you might say, now I will take care of my  technology to it to last longer and buy things only when needed.

  1. Elisa, good job on your first blog entry. I´m glad that it has made you think deeper about biases and also about your own carbon footprint. What is important is that we are always willing to listen and change our mind about things. The video brings up a lot of points. There may be a lot of bias, but the point in the end is that we have a big pollution problem in the end.
    Now onto your second blog….
